At my last agency job, I led creative for a nonprofit rebrand. We worked on it for well over a year—strategy, brand, website, the works. But in the end, they didn’t rebrand at all.
The nonprofit didn’t have a solid strategic plan or a committee leading the project. So, it was the longest game of telephone I’ve ever played. The board and staff didn’t agree on much, nothing got approved, and the whole thing stalled out.
It was frustrating, and not just because of the wasted time and energy, but because it didn’t have to end that way.
That experience made something clear: nonprofits struggle with rebranding because the traditional agency model isn’t for them. I left that agency and I founded Say When to create a model specifically for nonprofits.
Since then, I’ve been building and refining a better way—one that supports decision-making, keeps momentum, and helps organizations move forward with a brand aligned to their strategic plan.
Empathy, equality, vitality, and curiosity are the values that guide what I create and how I communicate. I believe design should spark joy and build trust. And I believe the right brand can open doors, leading to more funding and greater outcomes.
Traditionally, agencies focus on competition, but nonprofits thrive on collaboration.
My Solution:
I prioritize your unique community so we can strategically meet all audiences where they are.
Nonprofit messaging needs to be both politically strategic and deeply human.
My Solution:
I craft messages that speak to the heart and highlight data, because your mission needs both.
Agencies don't include every stakeholder, so getting approval on things can take months.
My Solution:
We begin with a workshop, with every voice at the table. Working together, we'll create alignment and buy-in from the start.
Agencies burn time in meetings, and on average, it takes at least a year to rebrand an organization.
My Solution:
It's just me, so meetings are easier to schedule and more efficient. Streamlined communication allows me to rebrand orgs in just 2-4 months.
Solving these problems has led me to more creative solutions and a much more enjoyable experience for all.
I've won 16 American Advertising Awards, including a People's Choice Award. I've also taught Brand Development and Advertising Design at UCO's School of Design, a NASAD accredited institution. You can view more of my work here.
Sustainability is a big priority for me, 1.5% of every purchase goes toward offsetting the studio’s carbon footprint. Eco-friendly practices are built into everything I do, from the materials I use to the web hosting I choose.
I work exclusively within the nonprofit sector and my process is built for the unique challenges they face. I also actively serve on a board of directors, so I understand the budget convos, wearing all the hats, and doing more with less.
If you’re tired of being ignored and ready to see increased support, a bold brand is the first step. The Say When process was made for you and it’s fun!
